First of all congratulations to Vika and all her fans. She played a great match and played well throughout the tournament, so she deserves this. As much as I would have loved to see Maria win another slam, and was a bit sad she couldn’t do it this time, I was happy for Vika since I like her and always wanted her to win a slam sooner or later.
I don’t think Maria played the best she could in the final, part of that was because she wasn’t really allowed to, however she definitely could have made the score much closer. At the end of the day, it’s still a loss but have to take some positives from this tournament.
Maria came in to this slam with no match play due her ankle injury and so wasn’t really expecting much - just taking it match by match. Reaching the final was completely unexpected given the circumstances, hopefully Maria can look back on this and see the positive side of things. Beating Kvitova would have given her a lot of confidence, and of course coming close but yet so far to taking the trophy will definitely disappointing for her.
Hopefully this loss won’t be too damaging, however we all know Maria is a hard working, determined individual and will be looking to come back better than before.
I’m hopeful all this hard work to get back to the top will pay off, and she’ll win a slam again because she really deserves it. Even if she keeps falling at the last hurdle, her fans will be supporting her no matter what.
